Engaged by a UK-based investment fund and working with their technical advisor (Arup), Dr Chris Colby of Colby Phillips Advisory (formerly Colby Industries) successfully delivered expert analysis to forecast new market growth opportunities for an existing recycled water treatment plant and distribution system they were looking to acquire in Western Sydney.

The analysis included spatial mapping and projections (out to 2050) of potential new recycled water demands from existing and/or new residential, commercial and industrial customers and/or other supply opportunities (e.g. indirect potable reuse), combined with preliminary engineering and (CAPEX, OPEX and Life Cycle) costs of additional infrastructure (pump stations, pipelines, water plant upgrades) to access these opportunities.

It also included background information on water recycling in Australia, as well as review of existing and future potable and recycled water charges for the Sydney Metropolitan area, which would shape the future revenue envelope for the scheme.

The results informed their investment modelling so they could determine an optimal commercial value for the asset that would best inform their final bid price.

Due to the time pressures of the acquisition process, the entire project was completed within 3 weeks from initial customer contact to delivery of final report and data set.
