Colby Phillips Advisory has recently celebrated completing our 70th Waste Management Plan, assisting our client in seeking Design Approval for a proposed Residential High Density Mixed Used development in Adelaide’s inner north.   Handling and disposal of solid wastes is becoming more complex as developers fulfil the Council objective of creating a more compact metropolitan area through urban infill.  It is important to ensure that waste can be safely and easily removed from site, while also improving environmental sustainability through convenient recycling and organics recovery.

Colby Phillips Advisory provided guidance to the architect to optimise the layout of utility areas and ensure the safe separation of residential and commercial waste storage areas.  The Waste Management Plan (WMP) provides comprehensive information on design and operation of the waste systems on site.

“We aim to set out the WMP in a way that allows the building designers, approval authorities, and operators of the building to easily understand how waste can be efficiently removed from site.   The residents should be able to deal with their waste and recycling with the same convenience as a resident living on a traditional quarter acre block.” said Principal Consultant, Joel Phillips.

Colby Phillips Advisory has worked closely in recent years with various Councils to develop their waste management guidelines. Dr Chris Colby, Director and Principal Consultant previously assisted Green Industries SA in producing the Better Practice Guide for Waste Management.  Our work across the breadth of industry enables us to offer creative solutions that support the objectives of developers, architects, and Councils.
